The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo-Prom Dresses for Princesses!
Last month I had the opportunity again to photograph the incredible Cinderella Project event in Kalamazoo. This is the third year that I have volunteered to provide photos for this wonderful event. Here are a few of the images...the color, the joy and the energy at this event is really beautiful. Adrienne from Memories Bridal and Evening Wear gives her all to make sure every young woman that needs a prom dress is given the attention and options to get just the one!

This year, as in the past, the event was held at the Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan on February 18. The event is sponsored every year by Memories Bridal & Evening Wear in partnership with Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo is an annual event that provides free prom dresses and accessories to local high school young women in need. Originally founded in 2006 as a partnership between Memories and The Junior League of Kalamazoo, each year. The Cinderella Project has given away hundreds of beautiful dresses to help young girls’ prom dreams come true. Their goal is to make sure every young lady that wants to attend prom has the opportunity to do so no matter what her personal or financial hardships.

My ENCORE shoot with Nashon Holloway.
ENCORE magazine photographer Brian K. Powers and an article on Nashon Holloway.
ENCORE magazine is always providing me with interesting shoots. Nashon Holloway is a musician from Kalamazoo living and performing in the Chicago area. She arrived at the studio at the perfect time. I had just returned from an L.A. portrait workshop, where I had been chosen by my portrait photographer mentor Sue Bryce, to be one of 20 male portrait photographers to visit her studio. I had returned charged...painting backdrops, trying new studio lighting and just seeing differently. Nashon was the first to be the subject of what I learned. I love these pictures and Nashon. She has the most beautiful presence and energy. I've attached a link to the ENCORE article below and read more about Nashon at: https://www.nashonholloway.com/
Olivia WMU dancer
OLIVIA-Working with Olivia was really wonderful. She is another dance student from the amazing WMU dance department
OLIVIA-Working with Olivia was really wonderful. She is another dance student from the amazing WMU dance department and was up for anything, even wrapping tulle around her until she could not move. Cayla and I tried to do our best to make the tulle look beautiful...but our draping skills were limited...we'll get it soon enough! Olivia has a young beautiful innocence that the light loves. Thank you Olivia!

CAYLA-Through my work with ENCORE magazine, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the dancers from the WMU dance program. My first shoot was with Cayla, a wonderful senior that originates from the area.

My first shoot was with Cayla, a wonderful senior that originates from the area. Cayla and I have become fast friends, she has been great at not only modeling for portfolio shoots, but also helping in other sessions and is also shooting video footage for me with her boyfriend Nate. It has been great so far...Look for more pictures of the WMU dance department soon! Thank you Adrienne from Memories Bridal downtown Kalamazoo for providing wardrobe form some of the shoots!
